Flying Fire Hydrant Kills Man
Humberto Hernandez, of Oakland, never saw what hit him
It was a 200 pound flying fire hydrant knocked into the air when an SUV driver lost control and her vehicle struck the hydrant propelling it into the air and the the back of the head of Hernandez.
After nailing Hernandez in the back of the head the flying fire hydrant continued on eventually hitting a fence about 20 feet past the dead man.
Even veteran police officers were amazed:
I’ve seen a lot of accidents but never anything like this. I’ve seen people hit fire hydrants but never anyone killed by a flying fire hydrant.
He was walking a bit ahead of his wife and then, all of a sudden, he is in the line of fire.
You can’t even pick those things up.
Hernandez’s wife who was walking with him at the time was not injured…
