Kent Couch managed a successful flight of 193 miles in a lawn chair suspended from helium filled balloons last weekend. After almost nine hours in his ‘flying machine’ he landed safely. His only injury, some rope burns.

This was Couch’s second lawn chair flight.

Couch, a 47-year-old gas station owner, set out from Bend, Oregon early Saturday morning hoping to make it all the way to Idaho. He didn’t, but he had a nice flight and now a hell-of-a-story to tell and more than likely the record for the greatest distance flown by a guy in a lawn chair.

The original ‘guy in a lawn chair’ record dates back to Larry Walters who in 1982 rose three miles above Los Angeles in a lawn chair lifted by balloons to startle an airline pilot, who radioed the control tower that he had just passed a guy in a lawn chair.

Read it at Man flies 193 miles in lawn chair and tell Kent’s wife to let him have another go at it. Who knows? He might make it to Idaho the next time…
