James Michael McHaney an aide to Senator Maria Cantwell (D-Washington) has been arrested by FBI agents in an internet child sex sting which used an undercover witness posing online as a teenage boy.

McHaney was fired Friday from his job as a scheduler for Senator Cantwell mere hours after he was arrested by FBI agents.

Allegedly McHaney, known as Mike, tried to arrange a lunchtime hookup with the unidentified person posing as the 13-year-old boy.

Reportedly when McHaney was asked if he was interested in sex with a 13-year-old, he allegedly replied, “I’ll be there” and later asked for a photo of the boy.

Cantwell’s chief of staff, Michael Meehan in full damage control mode released the following statement, “Late Friday afternoon the FBI informed our office that a Senate employee was arrested. The employee was immediately fired. Our office has and will continue to fully cooperate with the ongoing federal criminal investigation. Senator Cantwell has zero tolerance for crimes against children.”
